| These days it's hard to find games that focus more on gameplay than on fancy graphics, or famous franchises and licenses. Here's a few games that more experienced gamers will enjoy, for that retro style everyone enjoys. THEN:Streets of Rage(Sega Megadrive)
NOW:The Bouncer(Sony PS2)
Streets of rage was a side-scroller where Axel Stone and partners Blaze Fielding and Adum Hunter go through a city ravaged by gang war to take down Mr. X, the man at the top of the gang ladder. Team-based street fighting is your tool, with special moves for each fighter.
The Bouncer was one of the first games out for PS2, where you control a group of Bar and Club bouncers, trying to rescue their kidnapped friend, Dominique. All three fighters have several special moves, and can simultaneously execute the "Trinity charge", where they double-team their opponents in a cinematic slow-mo attack. THEN:Samurai Showdown, King of Fighters, Street Fighter(SNES/ Neo~Geo)
NOW:Capcom VS. SNK2 EO(Nintendo Gamecube)
Throughout the 90's, Capcom and a company called SNK made several fighting games that dominated the arcades and tournaments...nowadays, SNK is dead but Capcom is still proudly making award-winning games. Some people say that the 2-D fighter genre is dead, and games like Tekken 4 and Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance are reigning supreme, but that doesn't mean you can't get a few friends over and have some old-school fun! Capcom VS. SNK 2 EO is a great fighting game, combining characters from many of those aforementioned '90s games. Because the gamecube's controller isn't very ergonomic for fighting games, there's a special controller scheme where you just need to tap the c-stick in a certain direction and your in-game avatar performs a special move. THEN:Alone in the Dark
NOW:Resident Evil Zero, RE Dead Aim
Alone in the Dark, an early DOS game, was the first game to ever feature the 3D polygon. You control a P.I. sent to investigate mysterious murders. AITD also happens to be the first survival-horror game.
The last Alone in the Dark game was for PS1 and PC and didn't live up to expectations of fans. But luckily for gamecube owners, the entire Resident Evil series, the more successful Survival-Horror games, are available and feature amazing graphics and terrifying gameplay.
THEN: 007 Goldeneye(N64)
NOW: Timesplitters 2(Gamecube/PS2/X-box)
Goldeneye. Now here's a game that proves that movie-based games CAN kick ass. I still play it every now and then. It had great multiplayer, a huge assortment of weapons, and pretty decent graphics for the N64.
Timesplitters 2, made by the same team as goldeneye, puts you in the boots of Sgt. Cortez and his partner, a duo trying to stop the Timesplitters, a race that went back in time to destroy mankind. With dozens of single player skirmish-type missions, countless bots and characters(even a monkey!), this game is highly reccomended.
